The exceptional Hungarian clarinet player Lajos Dudas was born in Budapest, studied there at the Bela Bartok Conservatory and then at the Franz Liszt Music Academy. He has lived in Germany for more than 30 years. Dudas has always been a crossover artist between very different music styles. Actually, he began with classical music, but soon discovered his love of jazz. During his long career, he has played everything: swing, bebop, jazz-rock and fusion all the way to electronic music. He can also be counted among the inventors or – stated more correctly – discovers of ethno music. He played that even before the term existed. In spite of this infinite variety of musical expression, Dudas is not an imitator. He always succeeds in giving music his own personal sound, in other words, he is simply an exceptional musician.
The present jubilee album presents a cross-section of the work of Lajos Dudas. It contains pieces of very different styles and with different musicians and includes recordings of the past 30 years. This CD is a delight for your ears, and it is often difficult to believe how different the sounds of his music are. Everything is contained here from swing all the way to free jazz. Dudas is at home in music, but not in one style.
As varied as life, and played wonderfully!
