While many other Hendrix projects have tried to copy the music (and often failed in the process), Christy Doran’s band has succeeded in projecting a new light on the songs without relinquishing the spirit of the music. Especially Erika Stucky moves in the environment of rock, jazz and infernal improvisations with instinctive sureness, but also with a roguish wink of the eye and her own text supplements. Whoever can see her live, see how she moves on the stage and holds a dialog with Jimi via a “baby-phone” will remember this evening very fondly.

Johannes Mössinger is one of the most important German jazz pianists today. “Nu Love” is his fourth production at Double Moon Records (following the solo CD “Spring In Versailles”, the duet with Wolfgang Lackerschmid, “Joana’s Dance” and the first CD with the New York trio “Monk’s Corner” with star guest Joe Lovano).

The recordings were made quasi "live" on two days. Overdubs or other technical "tricks" were completely superfluous. You can almost only recreate the experience of hearing the unbridled joy of playing and the technical brilliance of the musicians in "first takes". Star violinist Roby Lakatos is also filled with enthusiasm for the recording: "Congratulations on this stunning mix of gypsy, jazz and classical music... great sound, great technique, great musicians."

Sometimes very reflective, sometimes with a wink of the eye, sometimes with unrestrained joy and then with raw, naked emotions again, practically inviting listeners to share them personally. Regardless of whether in her own compositions or adaptations such as Steve Winwood’s "Can’t Find My Way Home", Abbey Lincoln’s "Throw It Away" or "Feeling Good" – the song that has recently been made popular again by Michael Bublé – Nadia makes the material her own and polishes and refines it.

„TS Bremen“ ist das beeindruckende Debut eines Schlagzeugers, der – nicht gerade die Regel – auch alle Stücke komponiert hat. Als Leader eines hochkarätig besetzten Quintetts gibt er zwar selbstbewusst die Richtung vor, sein Spiel bleibt aber zu jeder Zeit „mannschaftsdienlich“.

Jazz and Persian lyrics: this very exciting encounter becomes an event with Cyminology, which not only sound spontaneous and electrifying, but also resounds long after. The pieces were mainly composed by Cymin Samawatie and bring the poems of Hafiz and Omar Khayyam from the 13th century back to life. And it does it – actually something to be expected, but surprising all the same – in Persian, which distinguishes the CD pleasantly from the otherwise mostly English-language releases. In addition to the language, however, the partially oriental melodic movements and the sensitive solos of Benedikt Jahnel are the elements that make this CD an extremely pleasurable listening experience.

The band “Oktoposse” is composed by eight young artists, most of them former members of the “National Youth Jazz Orchestra”. After working together for years in diverse big bands, the eight youngsters (24 to 30 years old) are presenting their own compositions, based on Modern Jazz but leaving behind all limitations and crossing all borders. The arrangements as well as the solos are fascinating and groovy in the best sense. Listen and you will be convinced: Jazz is not dead – it just sounds better than ever…

On „Awakening“ you can find Marko Lackners own compositions. They are modern and fresh and have some eurepean influences. Lackners idea is to combine the symphonic elements of a big band with the creativity of soloing artists. In other words to create a music blend from european roots and new modern jazz.

Robert Landfermann (bass) and Marcus Rieck (drums) accompany the pianist with an almost uncanny instinct through the most complicated arrangements. This is not only the result of their long years of collaboration, but is especially thanks to Benjamin’s conviction that a trio must be composed of three partners with equal standards and rights to present a harmonious result.
