The Jazz Festival in Burghausen is an institution. The festival has been organized by its enterprising club and volunteer workers every year for the past 32 years and provides an international flair in the otherwise rather peaceful town of Burghausen year after year. All stars of the scene have already performed here. There were many established artists in 2003, but many innovators and crossover artists also showed up to honor jazz.

Characteristic for this is the repertory of her band, which is oriented to contemporary European jazz and is composed of pieces that are mostly original and have never before been recorded as vocals. On the present CD, we can hear Anette’s own compositions and compositions by the band and their environment in addition to “Foxy Trot” by Kenny Wheeler. The Sunday Night Orchestra is presented the fruits of more than two years of collaboration with Ed Partyka on “Music without Words”. The result is a clear statement for “big band sound” as it is unfortunately only seldom heard - and almost not at all in Germany: rooted in the almost one-hundred years of Big Band tradition, but with modern and exciting songs and arrangements, which never given the impression of being worn out. The Sunday Night Orchestra has been in existence for almost 10 years - and it still works fresh!

The drummer, who has won numerous awards, is presenting his second album with “Coming Up” (the previous album, which was issued by Naxos, has been enthusiastically received throughout the world). It proves (is such proof still necessary?) that the drummer is not only an exceptionally skilled bandleader, but an innovative composer in addition.

The production is bursting with playful virtuosity, intelligent arrangements and the band’s sense of the „Balance“ cosmos, also called „Jungle Jazz“. Urbane ambience mixes with filigree-like solos and consequently develops an allure, which neither a confirmed jazz fan nor a young rave girl can resist.
CD DetailsMusicians: Johannes Mössinger p, Joe Lovano sax, Kermit Driscoll b, Karl Latham dr, German Klaiber b
Numerous CDs already exist, which have Monk’s compositions as a topic. But Johannes Mössinger has avoided that which is often attempted in these “tributes”: copying the individual (and unmatched at the time) piano style of Monk’s. Instead, he gives the compositions his own, individual credo with his own arrangements and consequently shows the music in another light. The album is rounded off by four of his own compositions: Twilight, Quirilunga, Back Up and Tango Du Soleil.
