Music for Audiobooks is the title of a new series, which Double Moon Records is releasing in collaboration with WDR. The popularity of audio books is increasing and not just in Germany. Literature fans enjoy the chance to have their favorite books "read" to them at any time and place. But what would audio books be if they only contained text? Not only does the use of noises belong to the dramatization, but also music, which transports emotional contents beyond the realm of letters.
The start of this series is dedicated to a very special work: the novel "Red Is My Name" by the current Literature Nobel Prizewinner Orhan Pamuk, which was published as an audio book in the Hörverlag (as book in the Hanser Publishing Company).

There is no better way to describe this outstanding project than with Mike Hertings own words:
"I had my first contact with the Karnataka College of Percussion in Cologne in 1983 at a concert for Charlie Mariano’s 60th birthday. While many of the musicians present (as is customary at such parties) suspiciously eyed the stage and were unwilling to go up there and play spontaneously, the Indian virtuosos simply went there and began to play.

They created a big stir in the 80s and 90s: The all-star band The Leaders. Releases on various labels (Black Hawk, Black Saint and Sunnyside) and international tours gained the band worldwide recognition. The bands members were none less than Arthur Blythe, Lester Bowie, Chico Freeman, Famoudou Don Moye, Cecil McBee and Kirk Lightsey.
Now the group has been revived. The initiators were Chico Freeman and Cecil McBee, who remembered the good old times and had the great idea to create an ensemble composed of experienced leaders again.

"The poetic tenor saxophonist Jochen Baldes ... sounds somewhat fragile and lyrical despite his virtuosity, and his ornamental-like improvisations, always searching for beauty, remind one of Charles Lloyd." (NZZ)

As already on the last album “per se”, the singer and band leader Cymin Samawatie again enchants with rhythmic and very emotional Persian lyrics on the new album “Bemun”. The pieces, which are sometimes driving, sometimes with a touch of melancholy, put a spell over you and you feel that Cymin represents two cultures. The fine-meshed nets, which she throws out around both, are captivating. The band has again succeeded in linking two music traditions perfectly.
CD DetailsMusicians: David Helbock p Lucas Dietrich b Marc Vogel d
The Helbock-Dietrich-Vogel Trio (HDV for short) wants to celebrate the great personalities and geniuses of the 20th century with the concept 'Celebrating modern Genius'. These are of course jazz musicians, for example Mario Pavone, but this concept goes a lot further; the musicians compose pieces in memory of the geniuses of our era. These also include philosophers and important thinkers such as G. I. Gurdjieff and Jiddu Krishnamurti.
